Wilson Ramos won't let Noah Syndergaard's preferences bother him and is staying focused on the Mets' success.
Syndergaard earlier this month expressed his desire throw to other Mets catchers, but Ramos' goals haven't changed because of that.
“You don’t feel happy sometimes with that situation, but it happened and it is what it is,” Ramos told the New York Post . “I’m here to help and here to win.
“It’s not like I would be mad with my teammate or that situation. I’m a professional and I love my job and I love what I’m doing, but sometimes you feel good pitching to this guy or that guy. That has happened before.”
The two-time All-Star, signed a two-year, $19 million contract with New York in December. While he started off slowly in 2019, he enters Saturday slashing .292/.356/.424 with 14 home runs and 74 RBIs.
But how Ramos works with Syndergaard matters as well, and they haven't been great together lately.
Syndergaard has given up 22 runs in his last five appearances and was paired with Ramos in two of his last three starts.
Regardless, Ramos wants to build team chemistry as the Mets chase a wild card berth.
“Right now I feel happy with all those guys, they have been throwing really good, the communication is really better than the beginning of the season,” Ramos said. “That made me very happy because next year I will feel closer to them, so right now we are showing everybody out there our communication is very good, so that will help us for next year be on the same page.
“Every day I get into my phone and look at all the games and see who won and lost and how close we are. It’s not easy to be in this position right now, but we’re still there. We need to play good baseball right now.”
New York enters Saturday riding a three-game winning streak and will attempt to extend that to four games against the Reds in Cincinnati.
The Mets are 3 1/2 games back of the National League's second wild-card spot with just more than a week to play in the regular season.
“It’s not easy to be in this position right now, but we’re still there. We need to play good baseball right now," Ramos said.
