The New York Mets will have some tough decisions to make no matter how the rest of the season goes.
New York is currently in the playoffs and is one win against the Milwaukee Brewers away from making it to the National League Division Series. There was a time when the Mets didn't look like a playoff team at all. New York struggled to open the season and was significantly below .500 at one point.
The Mets showed a lot of guts and battled back and made up ground in the standings. New York is one of the hottest teams in baseball and has a chance to make a deep run if it can get throughout Milwaukee.
No matter what happens, there will be tough decisions to make this winter. Superstar slugger Pete Alonso is due to hit free agency, and there have been rumors flowing about him over the last two years.
There have been times when it seemed like he was going to be moved, and there have been times when it seemed like he would stick around New York for the long run.
All in all, it will be a tough decision with Alonso set to get paid in free agency. He is currently projected to get a deal worth $242 million over seven years. That is an expensive deal, but he is worth it.
Even in a down year for him, he is one of the best sluggers in baseball. He is a terrifying matchup for opponents and has become a beloved figure in New York. Other teams will get involved in the sweepstakes to bring him in, like the Chicago Cubs, but the Mets need to do everything possible to keep him.
