Mets' Pete Alonso explains why he shaved his mustache mid-game image

Pete Alonso looked different by the end of Thursday's game.

The 24-year-old first baseman began the Mets' matchup against the Diamondbacks with a mustache but shaved it off by the time his team completed an 11-1 victory.

Alonso explained his decision to get rid of the mustache mid-game during a press conference following the win.

“I had very terrible at-bats before so I was like, ‘The mustache needs to go,’ as simple as that,” Alonso said, via the New York Post. "Baseball players are very superstitious."

Alonso has become a star this season but has struggled over the last three games, going 0 for 12 with seven strikeouts.

Alonso holds a .264 average with 47 home runs and 109 RBIs this season.

The Mets completed a four-game sweep of Arizona and finished play Thursday two games out of the second National League wild-card spot with a 76-70 record.
