Two National League foes meet when the Mets begin a three-game set with the Cardinals on Friday night, broadcast exclusively on Apple TV+.

After starting the year 0-5, the Mets (13-11) are playing much better baseball, thanks largely to strong pitching and timely hitting. Already, they have won series against the Braves and Dodgers.

Looking to shake off a rough start, star shortstop Francisco Lindor is looking more and more like himself: He blasted two home runs in Wednesday's 8-2 win over the Giants. And Lindor should have even more protection in the lineup. Veteran designated hitter J.D. Martinez, sidelined with a back issue, seems poised to make his Mets debut this weekend after completing a rehab assignment.

The Cardinals (11-14) shook off a four-game losing streak by taking a series from the Diamondbacks, punctuated by a 5-1 victory in the rubber game on Wednesday.

They still need more from their veteran cornerstones, as Nolan Arenado (.732 OPS) and Paul Goldschmidt (.572 OPS) have struggled in the early season. Bright spots include Willson Contreras (.951 OPS) and Sonny Gray (1.04 ERA).

Last year, the Mets took four of seven from the Cardinals, though St. Louis won the series at Citi Field.
