Every salad needs some dressing.
Bryce Harper's flowing mane has been one of baseball's most analyzed heads of hair since his arrival in the sport in 2012. With 242 career home runs, there's a decent chance he's doubled that in bottles of hair gel he's used over the course of his big-league career.
As with anyone who's used some sort of gel, pomade, mousse, wax, hairspray or other, that stuff can get sticky (and hot and itchy), especially during the summer months.
So it's no surprise that, in a light-hearted moment during Wednesday's Phillies-Nationals matchup, Max Scherzer and Harper's former teammates in Washington wanted umpires to check the outfielder's hair for sticky substances.

Harper had a good laugh about it, so all's well that ends well.
Plenty of drama has ensued from the Phillies-Nationals series amid the league's first few days of inspecting pitchers for foreign substances. Scherzer was checked three times on Tuesday night, once that was requested by Phils manager Joe Girardi.
Nats GM Mike Rizzo wasn't happy with Girardi requesting the substance check, calling the Phillies manager a "con artist" in a radio hit on Wednesday. (More like radio hit job.)
After the tension earlier in the week, it's nice to see a little bit of levity with players amidst this sticky situation.
Someone please pass the pomade.
