Mariners erase 10-run deficit, score 14 times over two frames to shock Padres image

The Mariners looked like they were dead in the water.

Then they erupted for 14 runs in two innings to rally past the Padres 16-13 Thursday night at Petco Park in San Diego.

The game looked more like an NFL contest in the middle innings. The Padres, fresh off a seven-run fifth inning, held a 12-2 lead with 12 outs to go

A mere formality, right? Wrong. Instead of icing the game, San Diego surrendered those 14 runs in the next two innings.

Seattle third baseman Kyle Seager, who doubled in two runs in the sixth inning, drilled a two-run single with the bases loaded in the seventh to help sustain one of the greatest comebacks of the season.

Seager finished the game 3 for 5 with two runs and five RBIs, raising his average to .295 on the season. This was his third straight game with three or more hits.

"That was just an unbelievable experience and something I've never been a part of," Seager told reporters, per MLB.com .

Korean star Dae-Ho Lee also helped the Mariners, who went 11 for 12 with runners in scoring position. Lee collecting three hits, including a home runs, drove in four and scored twice.

Thursday was the second time in three games the Mariners put up 16 runs against Padres pitching. Seattle won 16-4 on Tuesday. The Padres routed the Mariners 14-6 on Wednesday.
