To increase their chances of making the playoffs, the Seattle Mariners have acquired a top relief pitcher days before the trade deadline.

As it stands, the Mariners are on the cusp of making it into the playoffs. Just one game behind the Houston Astros, Seattle needs to make some big moves to guarantee success in the latter half of the season. If reports are to be believed, they've already made their first move.

According to an X post from ESPN's Jeff Passan, the Mariners acquired right-handed reliever Yimi Garcia from the Toronto Blue Jays.

"Garcia was one of the best RP available this deadline," Passan said. "Seattle remaining busy."

Yesterday, the Mariners made waves by acquiring All-Star outfielder and former ALCS MVP Randy Arozarena from the Tampa Bay Rays.

Garcia began his career with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2014 and has since played with the Miami Marlins and Houston Astros before heading to Toronto. He boasts a career win-loss record of 21-29 with a 3.47 ERA and 413 strikeouts.

This season with the Blue Jays, Garcia is 3-0 with a 2.70 ERA in 29 appearances. He's struck out 42 batters, walked eight, and only allowed 16 hits in 30 innings. Garcia also hit 100 mph for the first time in his career this season with his four-seam fastball.

In return, Toronto has received prospects Jacob Sharp (catcher) and Jonatan Clase (outfielder), reports Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet. Clase is particularly interesting, ranked as the tenth-best prospect for Seattle.
