The Baltimore Orioles had a disappointing end to the 2024 Major League Baseball season.
Baltimore had 91 wins in the regular season and seemed poised to make a deep run in the playoffs. Instead, Baltimore was knocked out of the playoffs by the Kansas City Royals and now needs to take a look in the mirror.
The Orioles likely will need to add a new starting pitcher. Baltimore made a massive trade last offseason and landed Corbin Burnes in a blockbuster deal with the Milwaukee Brewers. He was everything the Orioles could've hoped for, but he will be a free agent, and speculation has picked up that he could leave.
If he does, the Orioles certainly will need to add another hurler. FanSided's Lior Lampert surprisingly floated a trade for New York Yankees All-Star pitcher Marcus Stroman as an intriguing option.
"Corbin Burnes looked like the four-time All-Star and former Cy Young winner we've become accustomed to seeing in his debut campaign with the Baltimore Orioles," Lampert said. "However, the right-hander will be a free agent this offseason and should command many suitors as arguably the best top-of-the-rotation ace on the open market. With that in mind, he may have priced himself out of executive vice president and general manager Mike Elias' price range...
"Enter Stroman, someone who can come and be an innings eater for the O's. He's made at least 25 starts in seven of his past eight seasons. Burnes was the only pitcher to accomplish that feat for Baltimore in 2024."
A trade for Stroman would be absolutely shocking. Baltimore and New York competed for the top spot in the American League East. It would be surprising to see the two clubs come together on a deal of this caliber, but not impossible.
