The Cubs, with the luxury of a seven-game lead over the Giants for the National League's second wild card spot, will sit standout rookie Kyle Schwarber another three to five days because of a strained right ribcage, the Chicago Daily Herald reported.

According to the report, Schwarber's "mild" strain will be reassessed before the Cubs begin a series against the Cardinals Monday. The Chicago Tribune reported earlier that he isn't expected back for that series.

The MVP of the All-Star Futures Game, Schwarber, 22, was called up from Triple-A in July and has been one of the Cubs' best hitters. In 48 games, he is batting .270/.365/.552 with 13 home runs and 38 RBIs. The Cubs are averaging a run more per game since his call-up, the Chicago Sun-Times noted.

Schwarber was scratched from the lineup Wednesday and sent for an MRI after experiencing discomfort during batting practice.

He has spent the majority of his time at DH when Chicago is playing at American League ballparks and left field in most other games.
