Josh Reddick injury update: Opening day in question for A's outfielder image

Athletics right fielder Josh Reddick is currently sidelined with a right oblique strain, and it may keep him out past opening day. Oakland manager Bob Melvin told the media Saturday that his starting right fielder may be out for a little longer than originally planned.

"We know for sure he's not doing anything for two weeks, and then it's a progression to get him ready again," said Melvin, according to MLB.com's Jane Lee. "You have to start from zero again. I would think Opening Day would be a stretch, but he has been a quick healer."

Per Lee, Reddick was injured in outfield drills Friday. He has yet to undergo an MRI on the injured oblique.

The Oakland outfielder has dealt with wrist and knee injury problems over the past two seasons, landing him on the 15-day disabled list four separate times. Melvin is hoping that Reddick, who looked strong to start the spring, will be ready sooner rather than later.

"He looked that good in camp early on," said Melvin, per MLB.com. "A lot of times that's a rarity, and to see the ball hit that way against left-handed pitching, too, it's disappointing. But it is better to happen now than later on."
