Trevor Story's major-league debut made the Rockies forget about shortstop Jose Reyes — for one game, at least.

The $22 million invisible man started collecting paychecks Sunday, but the Rockies still don't know when MLB will rule on Reyes' expected suspension related to his since-dropped domestic-violence charges this offseason, The Denver Post reported

"We've very much been bystanders, waiting on this policy like everybody else," general manager Jeff Bridich said. "I don't know if there's a ticking clock right now. They don't give us that kind of information."

The Rockies started the rookie Story at shortstop in their opener Monday, and he homered twice as Colorado shelled $200 million Diamondbacks ace Zack Greinke.

"That's some of the flexibility we want," Bridich said. "There are punches you don't see coming. You have to roll with them and prepare for that. ... Whether it's in the absence of Troy Tulowitzki or Jose Reyes, we're well positioned to adjust and succeed at that position."

But they'll get a reminder twice a month that Reyes remains on the payroll. As the Rockies' highest-paid player, he is set to make his $22 million this season, and $47 million over the two years remaining on his contract.
