Yankees' Carlos Beltran offers support for ‘joyous guy’ Jose Reyes image

While many are calling for MLB to drop the hammer on Rockies shortstop Jose Reyes following his domestic violence arrest, Yankees outfielder Carlos Beltran is singing a different tune.

"I sent a message to support (Reyes)," Beltran said, via the New York Post. "It’s very sad news what happened. … I consider him like a brother. He’s a joyous guy, so what happened really surprised me."

Reyes allegedly grabbed his wife, Katherine, by the throat and shoved her into a glass door inside their room at Four Seasons Resort at Wailea in Hawaii. Reyes was arrested late on Oct. 31 after hotel security notified police.

MLB commissioner Rob Manfred said the incident is “an issue of concern” and the league will reference its domestic abuse policy before handing down any punishment for the Rockies shortstop.

Beltran, who played with Reyes during his time with the Mets, seems to believe Reyes’ wrongdoing won’t follow the dynamic player.

"He knows he made a mistake and he’s gonna do everything he can to make it better," Beltran said.
