Jose Reyes is claiming innocence in his domestic abuse case.

An attorney entered a not guilty plea for the Rockies shortstop in a Maui courtroom Tuesday, ESPN.com reported. Reyes' next court date, in which a pretrial hearing will be scheduled, is set for Jan. 14.

Reyes and his wife, Katherine, were at the Wailea Four Seasons Resort in Hawaii on Oct. 31 when an argument allegedly turned physical. Reyes was arrested and later released on $1,000 bond. He was ordered not to have contact with his wife for three days after his release.

When medics attended to his wife, they noted scratches to her neck and injuries to her left leg.
