Agent Scott Boras is known for getting his clients paid, even if that means breaking relationships along the way.

Marlins ace Jose Fernandez is no different as the 23-year-old right-hander's representation wants $30 million a year when he becomes a free agent, a figure the Fish have no plans to meet, according to the Miami Herald.

For reference, $30 million a year over seven years is very similar to what David Price received from the Red Sox this offseason and what fellow Cy Young Award winners Clayton Kershaw and Max Scherzer are making.

Fernandez, who won the NL Rookie of the Year Award in 2013 and is still undefeated at Marlins Park with a 1.40 ERA, will make $2.8 million in 2016 and carries two more years of arbitration eligibility.

If he's not dealt before the end of the 2018 season, Fernandez could join Bryce Harper in one of the most expensive free-agent classes in the history of baseball.

Trade rumors swirled around Fernandez in December as reports came out saying he was unhappy in Miami. Many thought the Marlins brought Fernandez back too soon last summer from Tommy John surgery and should have rested him once Miami was out of playoff contention.

Fernandez was 6-1 with a 2.92 ERA in 11 starts in 2015. He owns a 2.40 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and 10.5 K/9 in 289 major league innings.
