Top Yankees prospect Jorge Mateo suspended for mouthing off to execs image

Jorge Mateo, a top prospect in the Yankees' farm system, was suspended two weeks for violation of team policy at Class A Tampa.

The New York Post reported that Mateo's violation was expressing his displeasure to team executives at not being promoted to Double-A.

Mateo will miss this weekend's All-Star Futures Game in San Diego, a showcase for top minor-league talent, because of his reported insubordination.

Details of the violation were sparse in several New York-area reports, but a Post headline said Mateo "mouthed off to execs." The Post cited an unidentified source with knowledge of the situation.

Mateo, 21, plays second base and shortstop. He's hitting .266 with five homers, 34 RBIs and 26 stolen bases for Tampa.
