William Goodman, 59, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder in connection with the shooting. Police said Goodman went to Barfield's apartment in downtown Little Rock on Christmas Eve and the men got into a fight. Goodman then pulled a handgun and shot Barfield, police said.

Barfield appeared in 65 games for the Rangers from 1989 to 1991 after the team selected him in the 11th round of the 1986 MLB Draft out of Oklahoma City University.

The left-hander continued to pitch professionally until 1998, according to data on baseball-reference.com.
