The report, citing unidentified sources, said Dipoto will be offered the job. He began the season as the Angels’ GM but resigned in July after numerous reported clashes with manager Mike Scioscia.

Also citing unidentified sources, the Seattle Times reported that there would be an official announcement Monday afternoon. Another Times source said Dipoto was in Seattle over the weekend interviewing with Mariners top executives.

Dipoto, 47, pitched eight seasons in the majors but is considered a big proponent of advanced stats as a front office executive.

The Mariners fired Jack Zduriencik last month and will finish fourth in the AL West this season, meaning manager Lloyd McClendon's future with the team will be one of the early decisions Dipoto must face.
