Nationals outfielder Jayson Werth has hit safely in nine of 11 games this month. He had two hits Wednesday, including a walkoff single in the bottom of the 12th inning to give Washington a 5-4 victory over the Cubs at Nationals Park.
Werth's two-out hit off the right-center field wall scored Michael Taylor, who tied the game earlier in the inning with his own RBI single after the Cubs had taken a 4-3 lead in the top half.
Werth struggled in the first two months of the season and was hitting just .225 at the end of May. He has raised his average 23 points over the past two weeks.

In the midst of Wednesday's celebration, he had strong words for critics who said he was too old be effective at 37.
"Those people can kiss my ass," Werth told MASN's Dan Kolko following the game in front of a sellout crowd of 42,000.

Werth's postgame interview, which was televised live on MASN, was full of colorful language. Kolko had to remind Werth not to curse.

But hey, the Cubs (44-20) are the best team in baseball with the Nationals (41-25) right on their tail for early National League supremacy, so it's understandable that Werth's emotions got the best of him after his team took two of three in the series.
