Jason Heyward was scheduled for an MRI Saturday after he slammed into the back wall of AT&T Park making a diving catch Friday night, the Cubs announced.

The Cubs outfielder was making a diving catch when he hit the back wall in the bottom of the first inning against the Giants. He walked off on his own accord but said he felt pain in his torso and abdominal area. He later was seen with ice wrapped around his torso.

"Uncomfortable, in pain, but relieved nothing is broken," he said (via ESPN.com). "MRI (Saturday) to see what else is going on in there."

Heyward was reaching for Denard Span's fly ball to right center when he injured himself. The Cubs staff came out to check on him after he remained on the ground grabbing his right side.

"My lower rib bone and hip bone hit each other," Heyward said. "Got pushed up against the wall, and that was it."

Despite Heyward leaving the game early, Cubs manager Joe Maddon said Heyward's catch put the Cubs on track for their 8-1 win.

"That might have been the game right there," Maddon said. "As crazy as it might sound, if that falls, that's probably an inside-the-park home run, and all of a sudden they have a different vibe about them."
