Marlins outfielder Ichiro Suzuki made history Sunday afternoon when he became the first Japanese player to register 3,000 hits in the major leagues.
Ichiro, 42, hit a seventh-inning triple off Rockies pitcher Chris Rusin to become the 30th member of the 3,000-hit club.

Fans in Colorado gave him a standing ovation as his Marlins teammates streamed onto the field to congratulate him. Hitting coach Barry Bonds gave him a hug.

The 3,000 hits all have come since Ichiro joined the Mariners in 2001, when he was 27. He had 1,278 hits from 1992 to 2000 in Japan.
Ichiro joins Pete Rose as the only two members of the 3,000-hit club to join during their 16th MLB seasons.
