The Houston Astros have seen enough of Carlos Gomez, as the club on Wednesday designated the center fielder for assignment.

Gomez, a two-time All Star with the Brewers, is struggling in his first full season in Houston, slashing .210/.272/.322 with five home runs and 29 RBIs in 295 at-bats. He's also had issues in the field. In Monday night's 3-1 loss to the Twins, he misplayed two balls that resulted in triples and led to the Twins' first two runs.

Jake Marisnick got the start in center for the Astros Tuesday night, although Gomez got into the game as a pinch-runner.

The Astros acquired Gomez, along with pitcher Mike Fiers, at the trade deadline last season in exchange for four prospects. But Gomez hit only .242/.288/.383 in 42 games last year.

To fill Gomez's roster spot, Houston recalled right-handed pitcher Jandel Gustave from Triple-A Fresno.
