Two NL West foes clash with an intriguing pitching matchup on Friday night, as the Giants and Diamondbacks continue their four-game series.

Jordan Montgomery and Blake Snell — two front-line starting pitchers — each endured an unusually long free agency, waiting until well into spring training before signing a new contract.

Friday, Montgomery will make his Diamondbacks debut. The left-hander emerged as a postseason hero for the Rangers last October, helping lead Texas to its first World Series title. But the success only parlayed into a one-year, $25 million contract for Montgomery, who pitched to a 3.20 ERA across 32 starts last season.

Snell, the reigning National League Cy Young Award winner, signed a two-year, $62 million dollar contract with the Giants in mid-March. Snell had a brilliant 2023 season with the Padres, posting a league-best 2.25 ERA with 234 strikeouts in 180 innings.

But his Giants career has gotten off to a rocky beginning. In two starts, he is 0-2 with a 12.86 ERA. Now, in his third start, Snell will have to contend with a formidable Diamondbacks lineup headlined by All-Star outfielder Corbin Carroll.
