Giancarlo Stanton's season may not be over after all.

The Marlins outfielder made the road trip with the team Monday and was seen taking batting practice before the game against the Mets at Citi Field. Stanton broke the hamate bone in his left hand June 26 and feared he wouldn't play again this season.

There is not a set date for Stanton's return, but it's a good sign that he's on the road trip.

Stanton had surgery on the hand June 28 and didn't play in a rehab game until Sept. 2. He experienced some discomfort playing for Class A Advanced Jupiter and came out of the game after three plate appearances.

"He's feeling much better," manager Dan Jennings said via MLB.com. "It's good to see him on this road trip. I know where his mindset is. Now, there is just a comfort level of strength. When he gets to that, he will be ready to go. When that is, we're not sure. But I think it's progressing the right way."

Stanton was leading MLB with 27 home runs and 67 RBIs before breaking his hand.

"His attitude and desire to get back out there are definitely a positive," Jennings said. "I watched him the other day. He's letting it go. He's turning it loose. Now, just like any guy who has been off for two months, there's a timing issue. He's got to get that part right."
