How long is Giancarlo Stanton out? Yankees place slugger on injured list with hamstring injury image

Giancarlo Stanton was off to a rare healthy start to the season in 2024, but his stretch of staying available came to an end on Sunday.

The Yankees placed Stanton on the injured list with a hamstring injury after he appeared to tweak the left leg while running home during Saturday's win against the Braves.

Stanton had been having one of his healthiest starts to a season in recent years. He had played in 69 of New York's first 79 games, which is his most to start a team's first 79 games since the 2018 season when he appeared in 78 Yankee games, according to Stathead. That year, his first with the club, Stanton went on to play in 158 contests, his most to date in a Yankee uniform.

Since that debut campaign in the Bronx, health has been a consistent issue for Stanton. ESPN reported his latest injury list placement is the eighth time over the past six seasons. Out of a possible 708 games between 2019 and 2023, Stanton has been out for 266 of them, accounting for 38 percent of the games.

How long are the Yankees expecting Stanton to be out with his latest trip to the injured list? Here's what you need to know.

Stanton appeared to injure his left hamstring while running from third to home during Saturday's game against Atlanta.

The team appears to feel confident he will not miss extended time, with manager Aaron Boone noting that he's "dealt with these kind of things in the past," per ESPN.

"Hopefully it's not something that keeps him down too long," Boone said.

During the offseason, general manager Brian Cashman said the team expects injuries to Stanton as part of an annual tradition.

"He's going to wind up getting hurt again more likely than not because it seems to be part of his game," Cashman said in November, per ESPN.
