Everyone understood the Atlanta Braves were set up for failure entering the 2016 season, but even lowered expectations couldn't save Fredi Gonzalez.
The Braves fired Gonzalez on Tuesday morning, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports, putting the manager out of his misery in the midst of an MLB-worst 9-28 start to the season.

No one expected success out of the Braves in 2016 after the roster was stripped down over the past two years with the team in full rebuilding mode. But on the heels of a 95-loss campaign in 2015, management decided to make a change.
Gonzalez was 434-413 in five-plus seasons in Atlanta, reaching the playoffs twice and never finishing below second place until last year. The 52-year-old previously spent 3 1/2 seasons as manager of the Marlins and has a 710-692 overall record in the dugout.
