Prosecutors have dropped sexual assault charges against former Tigers pitcher Evan Reed after he pleaded no contest to misdemeanor assault.

The deal occurred Friday during a pretrial hearing, the Detroit Free Press reported. Reed, 29, was sentenced to probation, with the terms still to be determined.

The original charges stemmed from an incident on the eve of the 2014 season in which a woman accused him of drugging her at a bar and sexually assaulting her in a hotel room at the MotorCity Casino the following morning. Reed has said that the sex was consensual.

A judge dismissed the charges against Reed last November, saying the accuser's testimony wasn't credible, but a different judge reversed that ruling four days later.

In February, Detroit District Judge Shannon Walker ruled that Reed would stand trial on two counts of third-degree criminal sexual misconduct. Those proceedings were supposed to begin in March but were put on hold as Reed's attorneys continued to fight the decision to overturn the November dismissal of charges.

Now that the case has been resolved, Walker will determine the terms of Reed's probation.

Reed continued pitching last season, making 32 appearances for the Tigers and 17 for Triple-A Toledo, but Detroit released him after the season. A third-round draft pick by the Rangers in 2007, he is currently a free agent.
