Boston Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia will take a short leave of absence from the team to attend to a family matter, according to the Boston Herald.
Pedroia will miss Sunday night's clash against the Kansas City Royals and may miss Monday's game against the Tampa Bay Rays as well. The Red Sox will not make a corresponding roster move to take his place.
With a chance to tie the MLB record with 12 consecutive hits Saturday night, Pedroia ultimately grounded into a double-play to finish one hit short.

During the torrid stretch, Pedroia became the first hitter since 1913 with three consecutive games of four-plus hits at Fenway Park.
Aaron Hill and Brock Holt will likely help fill in for Pedroia until he returns.
