If Dustin Ackley is ever to reach the potential that prompted the Mariners to take him second overall in the 2009 MLB Draft, it won't happen in Seattle.

But apparently the Yankees think it could happen in the Bronx. New York has acquired Ackley from the Mariners for outfielder Ramon Flores and right-hander Jose Ramirez.

Drafted as a second baseman, Ackley has spent most of his time in the outfield the last two seasons. His OPS hasn't topped .700 since he posted a .766 in 90 games as a rookie in 2011. For his big-league career, the 27-year-old has an uninspiring slash line of .243/.306/.366.

Brian Cashman might be banking on the lefty swinger making a big jump at the plate at Yankee Stadium (.878 career OPS in 17 games) compared to spacious Safeco Field (.660 OPS in 287 games), but that sample size isn't much to bank on.

The Yankees have been quiet heading up to the deadline, but Ackley doesn't figure to be their last move, particularly since starter Michael Pineda just landed on the disabled list with a forearm strain.
