The Dodgers have hired former Blue Jays general manager Alex Anthopoulos, Sporting News' MLB Executive of the Year in 2015, to fill an unspecified role in Los Angeles' front office, ESPN.com reported Tuesday.

Anthopoulos stepped down as Toronto's GM in October after rejecting a contract extension offer. The offer came in the midst of a front-office overhaul; the Jays had hired former Indians general manager Mark Shapiro in August, and Shapiro later became the Jays' president and CEO when Paul Beeston retired.

"I don't know that I've had to make a harder decision in my life," Anthopoulos said at the time about leaving Toronto. "I just didn't feel like this was a right fit for me going forward."

Anthopoulos joined the Blue Jays in 2003 as the team's scouting coordinator and was promoted to assistant general manager after the 2005 season. He took over as general manager in 2009 after J. P. Ricciardi was fired.

Before his tenure in Toronto ended, Anthopoulos oversaw the additions of Josh Donaldson, Troy Tulowitzki and David Price, among others, as he positioned the Blue Jays as a playoff team.

The moves were successful; the Blue Jays (93-69) won the AL East last season, then beat the Rangers in the ALDS. They lost to the eventual world champion Royals in the ALCS.
