The two National League teams that have played the most games will get to keep playing even more.
The Diamondbacks earned the last wild card spot on the final day of the season, with their 84-78 record getting them into the postseason ahead of the Cubs. The Phillies had likely been comfortable knowing they would be going to the playoffs for much of September, but still had to wrap up that top wild-card seed by the end of the year.
That No. 1 wild-card seed is now paying all the difference in a battle of non-division winners, as the Phillies will host the Diamondbacks in the best-of-seven NLCS.

The first game of this series should feature one of the best pitching duels of the postseason so far. The Diamondbacks will send All-Star Game starter Zac Gallen to the bump to try and stymie this red-hot Phillies lineup. Gallen, among the favorites for the NL Cy Young, finished the season with a 3.47 ERA and has continued his success in the playoffs, allowing just four runs in 11.1 innings (two starts) with 10 hits, five walks and eight strikeouts.
Like Gallen, Wheeler has been dominant in two starts for the Phillies this postseason, allowing only four runs (three earned) across 13 innings of work. The Marlins and Braves combined to scratch across just eight hits and a walk in those 13 innings, and he's struck out 18 batters.

The Diamondbacks and Phillies will begin their NLCS on Monday, Oct. 15, with first pitch set to be thrown out at 8:07 p.m. ET from Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia.
