Marlins All-Star Dee Gordon had hoped he could tough it out after dislocating his left thumb last weekend, but the second baseman will get some extra time to recover.
Miami put Gordon on the 15-day disabled list Friday, but his replacement isn't too shabby. The Marlins filled Gordon's roster spot by activating former All-Star Martin Prado from the DL.

Prado played exclusively at third base before going on the shelf with a shoulder injury but is expected to slide into Gordon's spot at second for the time being. That won't be a stretch for the veteran, who has played 262 games at second in his career.
Still, the Marlins will miss the spark plug in their offense while he's away. Gordon has had a stellar season, posting a 338/.359/.413 slash line and leading the majors with 122 hits coming out of the All-Star break. His 33 stolen bases are second only to Billy Hamilton's 44 in the majors.
Gordon dislocated his thumb Saturday while sliding into first base. He is eligible to return July 28.
