Mets' David Wright to have surgery on neck, timetable for return unclear image

The Mets might not get David Wright back in the lineup until the closing weeks of the season, if at all, as he is set to have surgery Thursday to repair a herniated disc in his neck.

The team has not put a potential timetable on Wright's return, but MLB.com notes that other players with similar issues have needed at least three months to recover.

Wright has been on the disabled list since June 3, but the team's medical staff hasn't been able to find a non-surgical solution to the pain.

"My neck simply did not respond to any of the treatments of the past few weeks," Wright said in a statement, adding that the injury is "incredibly frustrating and disappointing."

Wright has a .226/.350/.438 slash line with seven home runs and 14 RBIs in 37 games this season. Wilmer Flores has started 11 of 12 games at third base since Wright went on the DL.
