If a hitter celebrates a home run by flipping his bat, a pitcher has the green light to “drill him” — because flipping the bat is disrespectful to the game of baseball, and it’s just not old school.

That’s according to former MLB pitcher David Wells, who was quite the hothead in his playing days.

“It’s ridiculous,” Wells told TMZ when asked for his thoughts on bat-flipping. “… They didn’t do it when I (played).  If they did, they got drilled.”

If a guy would have done it to Wells, “he’d probably wear one," he said. "I don’t disrespect them when I strike ‘em out, so don’t disrespect me when you hit a home run.”

Wells’ theory as to why bat-flipping is trending?

“It’s the new way, the new era, kids coming in and trying to change things.”

Darn kids.

“Old school guys, they don’t dig it.”

Of course they don't.

We wonder what Wells thinks of Fernando Rodney’s post-strikeout antics?
