David Price and the Red Sox are down in the dumps after getting swept in the American League Division Series by the Indians, but positives may rise out of the ashes.
Price, for one, has a lot of questions to answer after losing yet another postseason start. The left-handed ace still has not won in the playoffs when starting a game. Price entered the season with a lot of weight on his shoulders after signing a seven-year, $217 million contract during the offseason.
After struggling to come through in the clutch, yet again, Price understands fans aren't too happy with him right now. But he's vowed to make it up to them.
"I'm going to make these fans love me and I've got six more years to do it," Price said via ESPN.
Another person potentially in hot water after Boston's troubling defeat was manager John Farrell. However, according to multiple reports, team president Dave Dombrowski confirmed Tuesday that Farrell and his staff will be back next season.
Farrell was coy about his future after Monday's loss, but he wanted to stress the importance of winning the AL East to his team, even if the postseason left a sour taste in everyone's mouths.
"Given where this team finished last year, there's a lot for them to be proud of," Farrell said. "We had a chance to talk right at the end of the ballgame, we're AL East Champions, and I know that doesn't mean much sitting right now. But there's been sizable progress made on the part of so many individual players for us as a team.
"This is a big stepping stone for a lot of players in our clubhouse. This team is in very good shape as we move forward."
