Big Papi is home.
In his first public comments since being shot last month in his native Dominican Republic, former Red Sox slugger David Ortiz took to social media to share the latest update on his rehabilitation progress.
"Being at home and look at my family celebrating that lm here safe is priceless... Thank for all the prayers," Ortiz wrote Monday on Instagram. "Too bad l can’t crush food yet."
Ortiz was shot and severely wounded June 9 in a shooting at a nightclub in the Dominican Republic. After undergoing emergency surgery on the island, he was transferred to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston on June 10.
He had three additional surgeries that removed a portion of his intestines and gallbladder, but Ortiz was eventually released from the hospital Friday.
Dominican Republic officials have arrested more than a dozen people in connection with the shooting that was later revealed to be a case of mistaken identity in a murder-for-hire scheme.
