The Red Sox added lefty Chris Sale to an already-potent starting rotation Tuesday, sending shockwaves throughout baseball.

But could the possible payoff persuade David Ortiz to come out of retirement and make another run at a World Series title?

FOSTER: No, Big Papi isn't coming back (probably)

Shortly after the trade went down and Sale changed his socks, Ortiz posted the below photo with the caption: “My god my boy sale to Btown? You guys got me thinking?”

The Red Sox wouldn’t fight Ortiz if he decided to slide back into the middle of the lineup. At 40 in 2016, Ortiz played in 151 games, batted .315, slugged 38 home runs and knocked in 127 runs.

UPDATE: Red Sox president Dave Dombrowski tried to downplay the post Wednesday while meeting with reporters at the winter meetings.

"I know David well enough — and I know that if he really had sincere interest, that he would call," Dombrowski said, per the Providence Journal. "It's just like when I walk into the (Fenway Park) clubhouse and he's working out and I say, 'Hey, you could play now in the shape you're in,' and he says, 'Oh, no, no, no.'"
