Ortiz fouled off a 99 mph fastball from reliever Dellin Betances. He shouted an expletive, then went down on one knee in pain. After Red Sox manager John Farrell and a trainer came out to check on him, they had to help him off the field and into the dugout.

The extent of Ortiz's injury was not immediately known.

UPDATE: The Red Sox received good news about an hour later.

The Yankees won 9-4, but Big Papi's health is of much greater concern right now to the Red Sox. The designated hitter has 25 home runs and a 1.012 OPS this season.
