The most coveted reliever on the free-agent market is staying put.

Darren O'Day will remain with the Orioles on a four-year, $31 million deal, CBS Sports reported Sunday.

According to the Baltimore Sun, O'Day was on the verge of a three-year contract with the Nationals on Friday before the Orioles added another year to their offer to seal the deal.

O'Day's wife Elizabeth Prann is a D.C.-based reporter for Fox News, so it was no surprise his decision came down to either end of the Baltimore-Washington Parkway, though the Dodgers, Braves and others also reportedly were interested.

The 33-year-old right-hander has been one of the game's best relievers since Baltimore claimed him off waivers from Texas after the 2011 season. In 273 appearances since then, O'Day is 23-8 with a 1.92 ERA, a 0.939 WHIP, and 283 strikeouts in 263 innings.

O'Day coming off the board should kick-start the market for relievers this offseason, though the biggest bullpen moves likely will come as a result of trades rather than signings. Craig Kimbrel already has been dealt to Boston, and many expect the Reds to trade Aroldis Chapman — possibly at this week's winter meetings. It also wouldn't be a surprise if the Nationals traded Drew Storen, Jonathan Papelbon or both.
