Swanson will wear No. 2 and likely start at shortstop Wednesday.
Swanson, 22, was the No. 1 overall pick in last year's MLB Draft, taken by the Diamondbacks. He led Vanderbilt to the College World Series championship in 2014, earning Most Outstanding Player honors for the tournament.
CLEMENTS: Swanson doesn't shy away from spotlight
Arizona surprisingly traded Swanson to Atlanta last offseason in a deal that brought starting pitcher Shelby Miller to the D-backs. Miller has been a bust for his new club, which reportedly is already interested in trading him.
The last-place Braves have won 11 of their past 19 games entering Tuesday's game, and they added slugger Matt Kemp in a trade with the Padres on July 30. Swanson will join a lineup that features Kemp, hot-hitting first baseman Freddie Freeman and outfielder Ender Inciarte, one of the other players Atlanta acquired from Arizona in the Miller trade.

UPDATE: The Braves cleared a path for Swanson on Tuesday by trading shortstop Erick Aybar to the Tigers for utility man Mike Aviles and minor league catcher Kade Scivicque. The Braves acquired Aybar from the Angels last offseason in a deal that sent shortstop Andrelton Simmons to Anaheim.
