The Rangers' Colby Lewis didn't get a perfect game Friday night against the A's, but a Maddux ain't too shabby.
Lewis lost his perfect game when A's left fielder Danny Valencia doubled down the left field line to lead off the eighth inning, but he retired the next three hitters to keep the shutout intact. Lewis allowed a single to Josh Phegley to lead off the ninth but retired Eric Sogard, Sam Fuld and Mark Canha to complete the shutout — in just 97 pitches, thereby achieving the non-official-but-still-recognized "Maddux," an accomplishment named after Hall of Famer Greg Maddux, who had a penchant for pitching complete-game shutouts on fewer than 100 pitches.

The Rangers beat the A's 4-0 and will maintain at least a one-game lead on the Twins for the second AL wild-card spot.
With Friday's win, Lewis moves to 15-8 on the season with a 4.45 ERA.
