It was already apparent Wrigley Field is old and in dire need of upgrades. Now that an upgrade to the outfield bleachers is underway, it's becoming apparent just how old Wrigley is.
Crews found aging pipes under Sheffield Avenue while digging to build a foundation for the new bleachers, which may prevent construction from being completed by the April 5 season opener. The foundation work was scheduled to be completed by early October.

Unseasonably cold weather and high winds have already set the already tight schedule back, but construction crews will work around the water main installation as much as possible until installation is complete.
Bleacher season ticketholders may be moved to the grandstand in April if construction isn't completed on time. The ballclub is expected to make a decision before March 6, when single-game ticket sales commence.
Wrigley Field celebrated its centennial this season.
