Bud Black's undeniably odd offseason will wind up with him joining the Angels' front office, CBS Sports reported.

Fired as the Padres' manager in June, Black was expected to be hired as the Nationals' skipper until he turned down what he thought was a lowball contract offer. The Dodgers also considered him before hiring Dave Roberts as their manager.

Now, Black, who was the Angels' pitching coach from 2000-06 under Mike Scioscia, will work with new Angels general manager Billy Eppler, according to the report, which added that it was unclear at this point what Black's role would be.

He managed the Padres for eight-plus seasons and pitched for 15 seasons in the majors.
