The Nationals are set to announce the hiring of former Padres manager Bud Black to the same position after the World Series, according to the Washington Post.

Washington is holding off on introducing Black because MLB doesn't like major team announcements occurring during the World Series, the report said.

Black compiled a 649-713 record (.477) and never reached the playoffs in 8 1/2 seasons with San Diego. He was fired midway through this season after starting 32-33.

Black is well-regarded for his easygoing nature and strong ability to relate with players — especially pitchers.

The Nationals also brought former Reds, Cubs and Giants manager Dusty Baker for a second interview, but decided Black was the best fit.
