Bronson Arroyo's hopes of working his way back to MLB and into the Nationals' rotation have been dashed.

The 39-year-old right-handed pitcher has a torn labrum in his throwing shoulder, the Washington Post reported Wednesday. It puts his against-the-odds comeback from Tommy John surgery in serious jeopardy, if not ending his 15-year MLB career all together.

Arroyo signed a minor league contract with the Nationals in January with hopes of making it to the big leagues for one last run. He had been with the team for spring training, and was pitching well until being scratched from a Grapefruit League start this week because of shoulder soreness.

The 2006 All-Star hasn't pitched in the majors since the 2014 season, when he appeared in 14 games for the Diamondbacks before undergoing the surgery.
