Brewers predicted to land 'overlooked' White Sox hurler in surprising trade image

The Milwaukee Brewers had a five-game lead in the National League Central entering Tuesday, but they are not satisfied.

The Brewers will be buyers this week, and starting pitching is their priority.

One Major League Baseball insider believes that Milwaukee will be on the phone with the Chicago White Sox, albeit about a player that might surprise some.

Chicago's Garrett Crochet seems to be on every contender's wish list right now, but the Brewers could be taking a more nuanced approach to their deadline by pursuing Crochet's teammate, Erick Fedde.

The Athletic's Cody Stavenhagen actually predicted on Tuesday that Milwaukee will trade for Fedde before the deadline, thereby fortifying their rotation in preparation for a serious National League playoff run.

"It’s no secret the Brewers need pitching, but it will be hard for them to outbid the Dodgers or Orioles for the services of Garrett Crochet," Stavenhagen said. "A better trade for them could mean acquiring Fedde, Crochet’s more overlooked teammate. Fedde has posted a 2.99 ERA and is under team control through next season. He could be a good fit on a Brewers team looking to deepen its rotation."

The White Sox have been bad this year, but Fedde has been marvelous. He boasted a 7-3 record and 2.98 ERA entering Tuesday through 117 2/3 innings pitched.

Milwaukee has put together a stellar season so far, and adding a stabilizing force in the rotation like Fedde would make them all the more formidable for fall baseball.
