The Brewers and Mets faced off in the final series of the regular season — for Milwaukee, anyway — and will meet again in the first round of the playoffs.
While the Brewers were the first MLB team to lock up a playoff berth in 2024, clinching the NL Central title on Sept. 18, the Mets took it to the final day and then some with a remarkable come-from-behind win against the Braves on Monday to secure the sixth seed in the National League.
That means a trip back to Milwaukee for Francisco Lindor and the Mets, who face a best-of-three series against a Brewers team that doesn't have New York's star power but racked up 93 wins under first-year manager Pat Murphy.
Milwaukee plays a speed game on offense, its 217 stolen bases second-best in the majors this season, and boasts a strong pitching staff (3.65 team ERA, fifth in MLB) despite losing top starter Corbin Burnes in the offseason. The Mets have bounced back from a slow start under their first-year manager Carlos Mendoza and found a way into the postseason — and these days, all a team needs is that chance.
