The Milwaukee Brewers have surprised a lot of people this year. After trading away Corbin Burnes, they were not expected to be a true contender in 2024.
However, even without their ace, they remain one of Major League Baseball's top teams, and they could get even better in 2025.
The team doesn't typically spend on big free agents, but a top pitcher might end up being within their price range.
"Shane Bieber underwent Tommy John surgery in April and is not expected back on the mound until next summer," Jim Bowden wrote in The Athletic. "It's more likely that some team gives him a two-year deal at a reduced rate and takes a chance on his rehabilitation since he's a front-of-the-rotation starter when right."
Because Bieber is out for the rest of this season and will begin the 2025 season on the injured list, it's very possible that the Brewers could take advantage of him being available at a discount.
They will have Brandon Woodruff coming back next season, so to add another top-of-the-rotation arm would be beneficial for Milwaukee.
A top two of Bieber and Woodruff could make them a serious threat to not just win the National League Central, but also make some noise in the postseason.
Without Burnes, Milwaukee doesn't have a true ace, but they could potentially have two of them next year if they try to make this move.
We'll see if they end up being in the running for him.
