Royals acquire journeyman Jonny Gomes from Braves image

The Royals acquired journeyman outfielder Jonny Gomes from the Braves for infielder Luis Valenzuela and cash on Monday, according to Fox Sports.

Gomes, 34, is batting .221 with seven home runs and 22 RBIs in 82 games this season. The Royals will be his seventh team in 13 seasons.

Kansas City, which held a comfy 13-game lead atop the AL Central heading into Monday, will also get a boost when outfielder Alex Gordon returns to the lineup Tuesday. Gordon has been out since early July with a groin injury.
