The Braves announced the hiring of Brian Snitker as the team’s manager early Tuesday.
Snitker edged out former Rangers manager Ron Washington and former Padres manager Bud Black for the job. Washington was hired as the team’s third base coach.

Snitker, 61, served as the team’s interim manager beginning May 17 after Fredi Gonzalez led the team to a 9-28 start. The Braves went 59-65 under Snitker and won 20 of their final 30 games.
“Brian earned this opportunity through his dedication to the Braves and to our players,” Braves GM John Coppolella said. “We are excited for the energy and momentum he will bring into SunTrust Park next season.”
Snitker has been in the Braves organization for 40 years as a player and manager at virtually every level of the minor leagues.
