According to media reports out of Detroit, the Tigers exercised Ausmus’ fourth-year contract option.

Ausmus is 250-234 in three seasons, but missing the playoffs this year with one of the highest payrolls in baseball fueled speculation that the Tigers might be ready to make a change.

Despite a staff ERA that was 11th in the AL and 20th overall, the Tigers were in playoff contention until the final day of the regular season.

Critics point to an 11-26 record against the Indians and Royals as the main reason Detroit is sitting out this postseason.
